Type A Work Permit + National D Visa
workPoland's standard employer-sponsored route, and considerably easier since 1 June 2025 when the labour market test was abolished — your employer can now hire you directly without first advertising the role to Polish and EU candidates. The employer obtains a Type A work permit from the voivode of the region where you will work, which ties you to that employer, role and location for up to three years. You then apply for a national D visa through e-Konsulat and VFS. Budget 90 to 120 days end to end: one to three months for the permit, then two to six weeks for the visa. Your employer must also upload your signed contract to the gov.pl system before you start work. No degree is required, which makes this one of the more accessible EU routes.
Single Permit (Temporary Residence & Work)
workOne voivode decision authorising both residence and employment for up to three years — the route most people move onto once they are already in Poland on a D visa. It replaces holding a separate work permit and residence card, and is the practical path toward long-term EU residence, which becomes available after five years of legal stay. Applications go to the voivodeship office covering where you live, and processing is slow and varies sharply by region: Warsaw and Kraków are notably backlogged. Apply well before your current permission expires, because a timely application usually stamps your passport and keeps your stay legal while the decision is pending.
