Where Indians apply

Italy processes Indian applications through VFS Global, and your file goes to the Embassy in New Delhi or the Consulate General in Mumbai, Kolkata or Bengaluru depending on the state where you have lived for the last six months.

Fee and processing time

The fee is EUR 90 (about INR 9,630; EUR 45 for children aged 6 to 11, free under 6) plus a VFS service charge of about INR 631. The embassy quotes 15 working days, extendable to 45, and accepts applications 15 to 180 days before departure; because Italy is the most-requested Schengen destination for Indian summer travel, appointments in April to June are often booked out weeks ahead, so plan two months in advance.

That is about $100 in US dollars at the time of verification; the official fee is set in local currency.
