CUSMA Professional Work Permit
work
The best-kept advantage available to Mexican professionals, and the first thing to check. Under CUSMA — T-MEC in Mexico — more than 60 listed professions including engineers, accountants, scientists, computer systems analysts, architects and various health roles can obtain a Canadian work permit without an LMIA. That removes the slowest, most expensive and most uncertain part of the normal process: no labour market impact assessment, no advertising requirement, and a far cheaper application. You need a Canadian job offer in a listed occupation, the specific credentials that occupation requires — usually a bachelor's degree in the field — and proof of Mexican citizenship. Note that Canada reinstated a visa requirement for Mexicans on 29 February 2024, so you will also need a temporary resident visa unless you qualify for an eTA.
Express Entry (Permanent Residence)
work
Canada's points-based permanent residence system, covering the Federal Skilled Worker, Canadian Experience Class and Federal Skilled Trades programmes. You create a profile, receive a Comprehensive Ranking System score, and wait for an invitation in a draw. Canada has reduced its overall permanent residence targets, so cut-off scores are competitive and general draws are less frequent than they were — category-based draws targeting specific occupations, French speakers or in-Canada experience are now often the realistic path. French matters more than most Mexican applicants expect: strong French can add substantial points and opens French-language draws with markedly lower cut-offs. Time spent working in Canada on a CUSMA permit builds Canadian experience, which is why the two routes work well in sequence.
