Visa Planner vs doing it yourself
Every requirement we show comes from official government pages, so you can do all of this yourself for free. What a plan adds is the order, the timing, and the reminders: the parts that are easy to get wrong when you read requirements one page at a time.
Side by side

| Where the requirements come from | Official sources, verified and linked for every step. | Official sources, which you find and read yourself. |
| Order and timing | Steps ordered, with dependencies and due dates worked back from your move date. | You work out what has to happen first, and how long each step takes. |
| Expiry and apostille traps | Warnings for documents that expire, or need an apostille or a translation. | You spot them in the fine print. |
| Reminders | Email and app reminders before each deadline. | Your own calendar. |
| Cost | A fixed price per route (the eligibility check and guides are free). | Free. |
Choose doing it yourself if…
- You have done this route before, or someone you trust has, and you know the order.

Choose Visa Planner if…
- It's your first move to this country and you don't know what comes first.
- Your timeline is tight and a missed or expired document would cost you weeks.

Find my visa optionsFrequently asked questions
- Can I apply for a visa myself without an agent?
- Yes. Most work, study and residence visas are filed directly by the applicant or their employer through official government portals. The free guides on this site link each official source.
- What usually goes wrong when people do it themselves?
- Timing more than eligibility: documents obtained too early that expire before the application, apostilles and translations left until the end, and steps started in the wrong order. Those are the gaps a dated plan closes.
